Portable Pencil Hardness Tester

Applications

The Pencil Hardness Tester is applicable to determine the hardness of coating film. 

It is suitable for labs and building sites. 

It also can examine the hardness of coating film on any direction.

Structure and working principle

The instrument is mechanical. Three point (Two wheels, and a lead core)

contact the tested  surface always to ensure the pencil and the tested surface

forms the angle of 45 degrees, 

so as to push the movement of the instrument, to complete the testing process.

Speed: 1mm/second.

Use Instructions

①.Preparation: Cutting the pencil with the knife to expose the column

lead core 5-6mm (kind attention: must not be loosened or cut the lead core),

and holding the lead core and“No.:400” sand paper to make a 90 angle, and  keeping circle on the sand paper, to grind the end face of the lead core,

until the end face is smooth and the edge is sharp (The edge shall not be broken

or notched). The pencil should be rotated 180°or regrind before using next time.

②.Operation: Place the instrument on the flat bench, and place the cushion 

block under the instrument, insert the pencil into the hole on the main

body of the instrument, and make the pencil edge to contact the main body, 

and then tighten the screws(As the picture shown)

③.Place the instrument on the tested surface, and scratch with force (this force

or broking the lead core edge or scratching the film,and forward it with the 

speed of 1mm/second. 

From the hardest pencil (6H), scratch each level of pencil with five 3mm long mark, 

until find out the one which cannot hurt the film, THAT pencil hardness represents

the tested film hardness.
